The historical archive of the Musical Society of Turku, in Swedish Musikaliska Sällskapet i Åbo, includes original documents and rare printings from the late eighteenth century. The oldest prints, printed before 1800, are registered in RISM (Répertoire International des Sources Musicales) and in the on-line book catalogue of Åbo Akademi University, Alma. A part of the collection of music prints are registered in a internet database.
The Musical Society of Turku was founded in 1790 by Jakob Tengström. The Society was the founder of the Turku Music Festival in 1960 and took care of all the arrangements until 1971. The oldest European rock festival, Ruisrock, was also founded by the Society in 1970.
